My Education, Qualifications and Continued Learning
Wandering Earth Wellness is owned and operated by me, Kim Fitzgerald. I am a wife and mother of 3 wonderful children; Caleb 14, Abigail 11 and Emily 4-1/2. I love to travel, experience new places and see first hand where the ingredients I use come from. I have always felt an affinity with nature and been drawn to a "simpler" time. I've been told on numerous occasion that I was born about 150 years too late and would be right at home in the 1800's when home remedies were a way of life. I know Little House on the Prairie is a somewhat glorified depiction of life then, but a life like that is where my heart lies.
I had been studying herbs and essential oils for many years and still felt I was not using them to the best of their capabilities. I knew what to use, but I didn't know HOW to use it. I would often become frustrated and overwhelmed. What sources were reliable? As a result I would continue to throw products I really did not want to use at any problem that arose.
In 2014 I contracted Lyme Disease. I went to my primary care physician who never really seemed to listen to my concerns, and received a 2 week supply of antibiotics. After hearing other horror stories I decided to visit another Doctor that was said to be "Lyme Literate". He also claimed to be holistic. After shoving antibiotics down my throat for another 6 months and becoming defeated by my voice not being heard, a friend recommended that I visit an herbalist. WOW! My life finally started to come back together! But visits with him were costly and I still wasn't completely comfortable with the lack of transparency I was experiencing. What on earth was in what I was taking??
As it happened, a friend had been introduced to a wonderful essential oil company and had been using essential oils on herself, her family and her pets with incredible results. She began sharing them with me and I was amazed by the transformation in my own family. However, I wanted to know MORE.
I began to research schools for certification, when I discovered the New York Institute for Aromatic Studies. I immediately began working overtime (it was the Christmas season) at my retail job in order to enroll in my first course. In March of 2018 I completed the first certification course and officially became a certified aromatherapist! I am continuing on in my education to achieve my clinical aromatherapy and French aromatherapy certifications, continuing my herbal studies by continuing to immerse myself in the amazing world of herbs and essential oils as well as enrolling in a self paced course taught by an incredible, long time herbalist, Rosemary Gladstar. I will also be adding a meditation teacher certification in the near future. I plan on deepening my education by immersing myself in classes and education near and far and continuing to build upon my knowledge for years to come.
I have an affinity for Western herbalism. The medicine our ancestors used not so many generations ago. I enjoy using the plant medicine we can find in our own backyard. I get to know each plant and oil I use deeply. My goal is to help people get to the root cause of their health issues and empower my clients to find and follow their own personal path to renewed health and wellbeing using the tools gifted to us all by Mother Nature.
